How To Protect Your Windshield?

A windshield is the one thing that protects you from the external environment when you are sitting inside your car. People take windshield for granted, but if you think about it, the windshield is an integral part of the car. It takes a lot of impact during an accident, it supports the roof, and it also protects you from the small pebbles or rocks that can rocket out from the vehicle that is running in front of you. Clearly, taking care of your windshield is as important as other parts of your car.

We have made few tips that you can follow to maintain your Windscreen robust and safe.

1. Water repellent coating

There are several types of water repellent coating that are available in the market. The coating helps the water slide off the windshield easily. This helps in enhancing the visibility from the windshield under heavy rain. Some coatings also help in reducing the glare from the oncoming traffic, which is quite useful as the headlights will not dazzle you while driving in the night.

2. Ditch the Chemicals

When washing your windshield, avoid harsh chemicals. Chemicals can lead to glass discoloration and even strip away the protective coating on your glass. Instead, always use automaker approved cleaning products or, if you’re more inclined to making your own cleaning solutions, consider a vinegar and water combination (just make sure to rinse it off completely when done).

3. Change wipers

Ideally, you should replace the wipers every six months, but you can do it early also if they are leaving scratch marks on the windshield. Parking under the sun melts down the rubber gradually, and they can damage your windshield. When you use a damaged wiper, it can permanently damage the windshield with deep scratches. Also, never use your wiper on a dry windshield because that will increase the friction. To decrease the friction, you can use the windshield wiper fluid, which reduces the friction significantly and help wipers to function properly while protecting the windshield.

4. Maintain a distance from the the car infront

You should always maintain a good and safe distance from the vehicle going in front of you. This is because the car’s front tyres can splash tiny pebbles or small that can hit your windshield. Even after being so small, they are carrying enough speed to break the windshield or at least chip the windshield or even crack it.

5. Use your hand or microfiber towel

You should use your hands to wipe off the stubborn stains that won’t go away. This is because aggressively using a brush can put micro scratches on the windshield. So, it is better that you use your hand or a microfiber cloth to wipe the windshield.

6. Make sure to park under a shade :

The sun’s heat is one of the biggest enemies of a car. It is suggested that you always park your car in the garage. If you do not have a garage, then you can park the car under a shade or use a good quality cover that protects your car from UV rays. The car’s glass absorbs heat and does not let it escape due to which the interior temperature is more than the outside temperature. This puts pressure on the windshield and other glass areas, which can cause the windshield to break, or if you have a previous crack then it would expand, which will make the windshield weak.

These are some easy tips that you can follow to take care of your windshield. Remember, that the maintenance of windshield is as important as other parts of your car and windshield does not much. You need to take care of it, which is quite easy if you follow these, have a happy and safe drive.
